Practice Groups

WHITE TEAM: This group is for swimmers who are new to competitive swimming. There is no minimum age to be placed in this group. Swimmers are taught proper technique and mechanics for all four strokes, forward and back dives from a starting block, and competitive turns. Along with developing their stroke technique, swimmers are taught how to practice alongside other athletes in a team environment.

RED TEAM: This group is for swimmers ages 9 to 13 with the ability to maintain proper and effective stroke mechanics through fatigue. Swimmers are exposed to slightly higher training loads and develop their aerobic capacity throughout the season. They are also challenged to think about the sport in a more critical way through learning and utilizing different racing strategies.

BLUE TEAM: This group is for swimmers ages 11 to 14 with the physical ability and intrinsic motivation to handle intense practices. Swimmers become introduced to various forms of resistance training, both in-water, through the use of parachutes, pulleys, and other types of equipment, and out of water through dryland and basic strength training.

GREEN TEAM: This group is for swimmers in high school who have experience being on an organized swim team. High school-aged swimmers who are less experienced/less proficient may be placed in a lower group upon a skills assessment. Swimmers in this group are taught how to set goals and encouraged to focus on their “best” events at practice.
